America’s government-approved education system increasingly produces illiterate citizens

The great Professor Walter E. Williams has authored a startling column: “Is College Education Worth It?” “According to the National Conference of State Legislatures . . . studies have found anywhere from 28 percent to 40 percent of students enroll in at least one remedial course” upon entering college. “Only 25 percent of students who …

Collapsing Chicago Public Schools Seeking to Force Rural Illinois Property Owners to Pay $17 BILLION Debt

The Chicago Public School District is $17 BILLION in debt. (That figure is greater than the annual State budgets of numerous entire states combined; Chicago’s “teachers” often retire as multimillionaires in a state that has experienced years of declining household incomes.) Years of corruption and government central planning have taken their toll. (And all measurements …

A majority of self-described conservatives now view America’s colleges as a DRAIN on society

An astounding new study by the Pew Research Center is out: A majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (58%) now say that colleges and universities have a negative effect on the country, up from 45% last year. By contrast, most Democrats and Democratic leaners (72%) say colleges and universities have a positive effect, which is …

America’s colleges increasingly produce mental health patients

America’s government-funded and supported colleges produce a steady stream of government-worshipping content and culture. The expression of alternative and free-market views is generally shunned, and the colleges practice wide-scale discrimination in favor of the trusters of expansive government. But it seems America’s colleges are increasingly producing mental health patients. The Center for Collegiate Mental Health …

America’s government youth concentration camps (er, . . . ‘public schools’) have become prisons for both the body and mind. Metal detectors are found at many entrances and students are subjected to a steady stream of pro-government indoctrination. Now there is news that police in one Georgia public “school” patted down and searched EVERY SINGLE …

Greenhut writes that “Supporters of charter schools, homeschooling and other forms of school choice are so used to fighting in the trenches against the state’s muscular teachers unions …

The market always wins: Americans intuitively exercise ‘school choice’ without realizing it

The market always wins. Every economic regulation creates a black market, and prices and distribution balance out in unpredictable ways. The brilliant economist John Goodman explains in a new column that Americans actually have ‘school choice’ but don’t realize it. For example, many parents deliberately locate or relocate into school districts with better schools. They …

D.C. Daycare Operators Now Required to Have College Degrees

The District of Columbia has decreed that the directors of any licensed “Child Development Centers” — or day care — must have a “Bachelor of Arts (BA) in early childhood education or a BA with at least 15 semester credit hours in early childhood by Dec. 2022.” The regs also mandate that “teachers” possess at …

GOVERNMENT UNIVERSITIES NOW THREATEN TO PUNISH FACULTY WHO TELL STUDENTS TO CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE VIEWPOINTS

There is no valid reason for taxpayers to own universities. Every argument that is commonly given for government colleges is provably false. Modern government universities (1) are less free than their surrounding environments, (2) are more expensive than most alternatives, and (3) promote a steady one-sided stream of elitism, central planning, and government control over …

Government schools have underperformed despite spending massively on administration

The graph above shows that government spending on “education” has increased massively while all outcomes have been flat. If this model were implemented by the private sector, everyone associated would be fired and the system would declare bankruptcy. Even worse, the spending has been directed disproportionately toward “administration” rather than actual instructors. See here.
