University of Delaware tells students they must regulate speech at a free speech table

police state
American colleges have become bastions for pro-government totalitarian ideology and discrimination. Many campuses impose speech codes.

The University of Delaware is a government-owned university subject to the Bill of Rights. Yet students who staffed a YAL (Young Americans for Liberty) table were told they couldn’t allow free speech on a ‘free speech ball.’

The students presented an inflated ball to students who chose to write on the ball using a permanent marker.

Soon, government campus police told students that they needed to monitor and regulate the writings on the free speech ball. See here.

The F.I.R.E. (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) organization has sent a letter to the University over the police-state situation prevailing at U of D. See here.

UC Berkeley Forced to Cut 500 Jobs After $15 Minimum Wage Hike

imagesCZNXT5J4

More than 100 peer-reviewed studies have found that increasing (or establishing) a minimum wage law causes higher unemployment.

Unemployment, in turn, is correlated with a number of measures of social ills, including increased suicide rates, rates of first admission to mental health facilities and rates of alcoholism.

Now, just weeks after the State of California imposed a $15 per hour minimum wage, UC, Berkeley has been forced to cut 500 jobs. See here.

More sad news from Venezuela: Dirty air, dirty water, malnutrition, sickness

ang

Witness modern Venezuela. A generation ago, Venezuelan voters cheered when socialist Hugo Chavez was elected president.

Chavez’s socialist government took over the mining, industrial, energy, and shipping industries. Chavez imposed censorship on the media, jailing critics. Wealthy households were raided and had their belongings taken by the state. Companies were banned or fled.

Chavez provided “free” benefits such as health care, housing, education and food.

Now Venezuelans are suffering from massive waves of illnesses, yellow water, energy shortages, and dirty air. See here.

New York Times Prints Blatant Untruths about Forest Fire Increases

forest fire acreage
The New York Times just ran a story on April 12 claiming that climate change has caused record-setting numbers of forest fires and of acreages burned. See here.

The story, headlined “Wildfires, Once Confined to a Season, Burn Earlier and Longer,” proclaimed that

“The 10.1 million acres that burned in the United States last year were the most on record, and the top five years for acres burned were in the past decade. The federal costs of fighting fires rose to $2 billion last year, up from $240 million in 1985.”

Of course, these claims are untrue. The graph above shows that the total acreage burned by forest fires has declined significantly since the 1920s and ’30s.

Vast Majority Distrust News Media

tvdees

“Just 6 percent of people say they have a lot of confidence in the media, putting the news industry about equal to Congress and well below the public’s view of other institutions.” See here.

For years, ‘mainstream’ news has parroted the positions of government. In fact, government agencies have been repeatedly caught secretly paying journalists for pro-government news.

Democrats were more likely to trust the news media than Republicans or independents.

Bill Nye the Science Guy says he is O.K. with imprisonment of climate skeptics

angu

One of the most prominent “science” voices in America–“Bill Nye the Science Guy”–has recently said he has no problem with the jailing and imprisonment of climate-change skeptics.

Nye also said he supports the chilling effect that governmental investigations and persecutions have on doubters of government-approved science. See here.

Nye said:

As a taxpayer and voter, the introduction of this extreme doubt about climate change is affecting my quality of life as a public citizen… So I can see where people are very concerned about this, and they’re pursuing criminal investigations as well as engaging in discussions like this….That there is a chilling effect on scientists who are in extreme doubt about climate change, I think that is good.

Venezuelans now don’t have toilet paper, cable TV or cell phone service

images0P4M0FZ6

Socialism is something that should only be wished on one’s enemies.

For years, Venezuelans have voted for overt socialists. It all seemed great at first. “Free” health care, education, food, shelter, clothing, etc.

The government ‘paid’ for everything with abundant oil. But now oil prices have hit rock bottom and the Venezuelan government owes its contractors millions.

Venezuelans now lack basic toilet paper, cable TV, phone service and medicine. See here.

California’s 1 percent pay 45 percent of all State income taxes

sadness

For decades, the legislature of California has pushed the envelope toward socialism, high taxes and overregulation.

Now the Sacramento Bee has conducted a study of the State’s tax burden. The newspaper found that forty-five percent of the state’s income tax money comes from the top 1 percent of filers – those with adjusted gross income of at least $501,000. See here.

For the most part, only the one percent have prospered at all in the past decade. The real incomes of most other Californians have stagnated or declined.

The State now requires government licenses to engage in most occupations. Starting a business or hiring an employee has become almost impossible for people of limited means. The paperwork burdens are simply too high.

Minnesota cities claim to be able to search rental apartments without warrant to ensure good housekeeping

evil2

Astounding story from the Institute for Justice. Government control freaks in Golden Valley, Minnesota claim they have the right to search any rental apartment in order to ensure the apartment is clean and tidy.

Golden Valley and other Minnesota towns seek evidence-free “administrative” warrants to search rental homes. The Institute for Justice is challenging the practices. See here.
